Episode 8: Final Book of Moses

Wednesday May 15, 2024

Wednesday May 15, 2024

We begin this week with Deuteronomy Chapter 12 vs 1 "These are the statutes and judgements which you shall be careful to observe in the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving to you to possesses, all the days that you may live on the earth"

Deuteronomy is the fifth and final book of Moses. That means we're about to enter into the season of the bible where the people of Israel cross into Canaan.

Finishing Deuteronomy had wonderful moments, funny moments and sad moments. We read about Moses passing away at 120 years old.

God said, through Moses, in Deuteronomy Chapter 5 vs. 6 "I am the Lord your God"

Welcome to week 7, you guys! Happy Wednesday!

This week is also huge because the podcast's official launch day is today! I am so excited! All of you who are new here - WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME!

This week we got to learn about the people of Israel preparing to go into the promise land. As a reminder, due to their defiance of God they had to stay in the wilderness for 40 years. We're finally at the end of that waiting period and the people are Israel are preparing to go into Canaan!

We also started Deuteronomy this week. Which, I am really excited to be reading this book in the Bible. I have so many bible verses from Deuteronomy highlighted. And sometimes (at least for me) I don't always have the full back story to the bible verses that I know. But, that is what this podcast is for. TOGETHER we will learn it all!

Episode 6: Beginning in Numbers

Wednesday May 01, 2024

Wednesday May 01, 2024

Okay, I'm going to be super honest with you guys - week 6 of 52 was challenging for me to read. Not only did we learn about the numbers of people within the children of Israel, we also read about God's anger and the punishments he brought to the people of Israel.

Because sin entered our world so early on, there is sin in so much of what we read. God wanted the people of Israel to follow him, trust him, listen to him so badly and they didn't or when they flat out went against Him - he brought his anger down and we learn about the punishments.

I encourage you, especially if this is your first time reading the bible, to hang on and remember all the glory we've already read and all the glory we will continue to read together. As challenging as this week was, I also really loved it because I feel like I got to know God's character and what He seeks from us.

Numbers 6:24-26 is a bible verse that inspired one of my favorite worship songs! The Blessing by Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes. You can listen to it on YouTube HERE. This is a perfect song to drive to, enjoy during your bible study or during time you're wanting to connect with God more.

Wednesday Apr 24, 2024

We wrap up the laws, regulations and instructions from God this week.
Week 5 of 52 continued focusing on the laws, rules and instructions from God. We learned about the four types of sin offerings, all about Aaron becoming the first High Priest and the laws laid out by God.

I love how Moses, the author of Leviticus, closes this book in the bible. He says in Leviticus Chapter 27 vs 34,
"these are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses for the children of Israel on Mount Sinai.". This is Moses reminding us that everything we just read is all the commandments coming from God.

While some of this reading may have felt slow or repetitious at times, it is important for our journey of reading the full bible together to truly understand each chapter in the bible. So, thank you so much for hanging in there with me. I also want to give credit to 2belikechrist.com and bibleproject.com for their help with understanding these chapters a bit further this week.

Episode4: The Laws from God

Wednesday Apr 17, 2024

Wednesday Apr 17, 2024

We wrap up Exodus and begin Leviticus this week!

Week 4 of 52 focuses on the laws, rules and instructions from God.
God spends a good amount of time with Moses telling him the laws and instructions. God also instructs his people, the children of Israel, to build a tabernacle. The tabernacle was a mobile place of worship. This was where the people could go to be with God and God could be with the people. So much detail went into the tabernacle!

We also continue reading about how when we have an intimate relationship with God we receive direction, instruction and guidance from God.

What I also loved about this week is that we read in Exodus about the breaking of the ten commandments tablet. Growing up, my parents had a piece of deco in their home that was a stone tablet of the ten commandments. There was a gigantic crack down the center of it. I guess I always thought it was just part of the decor. However, this week read in Exodus that actually that crack was from Moses. He was so angry when he came down from Mount Sinai because the children of Israel were worshiping a golden calf vs. God. He was so angry that he snapped the tablet in half. I am loving all that I am learning while reading the bible. I hope that you are, too!

Episode 3:Wrapping up Genesis

Wednesday Apr 10, 2024

Wednesday Apr 10, 2024

During week 3 together, we not only are wrapping up the book of Genesis but we are also kicking off the book of Exodus!
Exodus has 40 chapters and we read the first 20 together this week!
During week 3, we get to see beautiful examples of perseverance, following God even when it feels difficult or unsure and the amazingness that comes with following God.
I have heard of Moses my entire life being raised a Christian. But I think this is the first time I sat down and read his story with so much attention to detail. It didn't matter how difficult the ask was from God, Moses listened and obeyed. And because of this, Moses brought the people of Israel out of Egypt and out of the slavery.
Even though this story was exciting, the reading of Exodus and the 10 plagues that God brought down was a slow read and a little difficult at times. But I think that is normal and I just know there will be times that we can't put the bible down because it is so interesting to read. So, if you felt like this week was slow - you're not alone! And that is why we're doing this together!

Episode 2: Genesis 25 - 47

Wednesday Apr 03, 2024

Wednesday Apr 03, 2024

Genesis 26:24 says "Do not be afraid, for I am with you and I will bless you".
We learn about so many of God's blessings in week 2 of our reading the bible in a year journey. We also learn about some family drama between Esau and Jacob.
What I loved the most during this week's readings is the reminder of how God calls us to act as Christians. And he calls us to forgive, even when those we love wrong us.

Genesis 1:3 "And God said, 'Let there be light', and there was light. The first book in the bible in Genesis. Genesis introduces us to life on Earth, all created by God and in His image.
Genesis is also the first stories on people on Earth. We read about Adam & Eve, Noah, Abraham, Lot and Isaac. We read about God's first promises to man (that He keeps even today!) and that when we have a close relationship with God we too receive guidance and direction from Him.
Episode 1 kicks off our journey of reading the Bible together in one year. Every Wednesday a new episode will be available walking you through new chapters in the Bible. Together, we will read the Bible in 52 podcast episodes. We're just getting started!

Episode 1: Genesis Chapters 1 - 24

In this week's podcast, we learned about so much from the beginning of the bible. We learned about God's creation of Earth and life. We learned about the first relationships that mankind had with God.

We also learned about temptation and sin. But in that, we saw the beauty of God's promises and how He always keeps His word.

We saw through Noah, Abraham, Lot and Isaac that when a relationship with God is formed and we spend time with God and listen to God we are rewarded with direction, guidance, protection and achieving our most precious dreams. The first 24 Chapters of the Genesis show us just how amazing of a God our God is.

A bible verse that stood out to me this week was Genesis 18:14 when God is speaking to Sarah and He says "Is anything too hard for the Lord?". Such an amazing question because nothing, not one single thing, is too hard for the Lord.

For this podcast, we're following along with the The Bible in a Year study written by Lauren Ibach. I love how this study breaks the readings down per day and per week. You can shop her study HERE
